Sam says “Lycia’s Wake has long been out-of-print, but I have a number of these cards in my basement, and I think it’s something fans might like. The songs that appeared on Wake were recorded in 1989 (before Ionia) and sent to Projekt as demos which convinced me to sign Lycia. Mike and I decided to reissue the material in 1993, not long after the release of A Day in the Stark Corner. I cannot really recall who came up with the idea for this cover. Mike was really into Greek and Byzantine art, and Susan was taking classes that also covered that era. So somebody hit on the idea of etching and painting on a piece of marble, which is what Susan did. We photographed the marble, but it seemed very anticlimactic to print it on paper, so I thought about printing on heavy card stock. That wasn’t possible, so we printed on paper and then had it mounted on really thick board. It gave the cover the weight to match the imagery. Over the years, the card has warped some, so these are slightly curved. But I think it’s still a very distinctive and stylish piece of art and Projekt history.”
