“Sequencer” is the second SYNERGY project. The album was recorded in late 1975 and early 1976 after composer/producer Larry Fast had returned to the US from working in Europe with the progressive band Nektar. “Sequencer” continued the tradition of 1975’s “Electronic Realizations for Rock Orchestra”, composed and performed entirely on Moog and other synthesizers. Improvements in electronic instruments and recording technology made for an even more dynamic recording than was possible a year earlier.

Most of the album was composed by Larry Fast, but several pieces from other writers are featured. A single was released of an electronic reworking of Mason Williams’ “Classical Gas”; and a combination of Dvorak’s “Largo from the New World Symphony” and Ralph Towner’s “Icarus” generated attention for the skillful transformation of these pieces into the electronic idiom. The long-form set piece of the albums is Fast’s own “Sequence 14” composed with the early use of a digital sequencer.
