In Pittsburgh News Weekly (1996): “if your tastes tend to the independent dark-rock of the ’80s (Xymox, Breathless, And Also The Trees) or some of the newer heavenly drone-pop (Half String, Lanterna, Curtain Society) you will want to pick this up and be amazed that, finally, something this pristinely beautiful comes out of our fair city.” – Manny Theiner
Lowsunday’s 30th anniversary remaster of their highly regarded debut Low Sunday Ghost Machine captures nine tracks of energetic post‑punk, shoegaze, and dreampop resonating with richly melodic atmospheres and introspective vocals. Included is a second disc with 7 bonus tracks from the era, some unreleased, some remixes and reinterpretations.
Low Sunday Ghost Machine marked the band’s second attempt at a full-length record following the shelving of their original debut. With renewed energy and a clearer sonic vision, the band returned to the studio and delivered what would become their defining statement — an album of layered guitars, atmospheric synths, and emotive vocals from songwriter Shane Sahene. With positive reviews and a dedicated cult following across the USA, Germany, and Italy, over the years Low Sunday Ghost Machine‘s reach and reputation blossomed in the dark alternative music community.
The original nine tracks recorded at the height of the band’s early ascent by:
Shane Sahene – vocals, guitar
Marc Turina – bass
LP – drums
Scott Bedillion – guitar
Dale Reckless – synth
Bonus Tracks:
• Two newly remastered tracks from the album’s mid-’90s sessions
• Five 2025 mixes and reinterpretations — reimagined versions of original songs, produced and mixed by lowsunday bandmates Shane Sahene and Bobby Spell
• Brings new depth and energy to the original material
1997’s “Glittered Something (2025 remaster)”:
Shane Sahene – vocals, guitar
Eric Arnold – guitar
Shaun Leslie – synth
Marc Turina – bass
Michael McCabe – drums
The final track, “For A Moment (goodbye mix 2025 remaster),” reflects a key phase in Lowsunday’s evolution: a 1999 re-recording with the band that appeared on the elesgiem album:
Shane Sahene – vocals, guitar
Bobby Spell – bass
AT Vish – drums
The late Shawn Bann – guitar, synth

Three decades since its original release, the expanded reissue of Lowsunday’s debut album was released by Projekt Records – renewed, a striking exercise in forward-looking nostalgia. Shane Sahene and Bobby Spell, breathe fresh life into their vision, blending post-punk edge with shimmering synth landscapes and shoegaze atmospherics. Lowsunday return with an extended 30-year anniversary edition of Low Sunday Ghost Machine and Innocence (2025 Electro Mix). The original album has nine tracks focused on highly melodic atmospheres and dark vocals, presenting the band’s early sound with warmth and control. The 2025 remastered extended edition adds a second disk of seven bonus tracks from the same era, including previously unreleased material, remixes, and reworks. Shane Sahene and Bobby Spell, of Lowsunday, created and mixed these fresh renditions. Musically, the album draws on The Cure’s early sound while also incorporating darker wave influences (such as The Sound). The guitars have a driving rhythm, but the keyboards are slightly hidden in the mix, creating an ethereal—and at times chaotic, environment. Tracks like “For a Moment” start slowly and build tension, with soft synths creating a fine line that keeps the song from going too far. It’s a track that recalls memories and draws comparisons to modern shoegaze bands that have obviously reinterpreted this sound via a contemporary view. The remastering process improves the production by smoothing out the rough edges of the original recordings. The mastering reduces harsh frequencies while preserving the album’s original atmosphere, allowing softer tones to come out without sacrificing emotional impact. Songs like “Your Eden” have a lovely melancholy typical of The Smiths, with sweet melodies enclosed in guitar sounds from the early 1980s. Disc two provides an intriguing contrast with alternate mixes. “Innocence (2025 Electro Mix)” features 1990s-style beats that increase the suspense and add a psychedelic aspect, similar to watching a film where the protagonist is constantly rushing to escape. The music inspires movement, leading the listener to a state of audio and visual escape. Meanwhile, “For a Moment (2025 Electro Mix)” uses acid bass rhythms and layered synth work to bring out electro memories and create a hypnotic experience balancing between reverb, psychedelia, and dance, a cosmic ride back to the 1990s club scene. Overall, Low Sunday Ghost Machine (2025 Remaster) is a fantastic release that would be ideal as the music of a young film. It combines haziness, psychedelia, and punk energy to create a pleasant, musically powerful whole that seems nostalgic and forever young.

From The Big Takeover #97
A welcome remastered release of LS’s debut from 1996, it’s cleaner, clearer, and just dark and luscious all around. Back then, the band name was Low Sunday Ghost Machine, but now we get them tighter and brighter with a quick Lowsunday. Regardless, this debut is amazing, a solid offering of gothic post-punk and dark dream pop. Hints of a Chameleons swirl mix with a New Model Army drive fly out of “So Far Away,” while “Your Eden” moves with a little more Xymox romanticism, and “Blast” pulses out with an ethereal enchanting Cocteau Twins drone that shimmers like a heartbreak shadow. This makes me feel like I’m living in the darklands again, and I love it. A spectrally intimate and perfectly wired emotional sonic landscape. -Marcel Feldmar

From The Big Takeover
When you see the bands from your formative days reforming or releasing albums that have clocked up significant calendar mileage, it can make you feel a bit old. But I prefer to put a more positive spin on things. Without wanting to sound elitist or precious or…well, old… such activities remind me of the great soundtrack I had during those early days of my musical learning curve.
So, Lowsunday’s debut being remixed and rereleased as it turns 30 is more of a nostalgia-tinged celebration for me than a reminder that I can’t throw the crazy shapes and dance moves I used way back when… not with my back!
If, when it first saw the light of day, the album was celebrated for its impressive blend of futuristic nostalgia, a merging of the post-punk, shoegazing and pioneering synth sounds from the previous decade with more of the moment dreamscaping and forward-thinking creativity, even today it feels as if it sits on the cusp of the recognisable past and the potential of what might come.
What original singer and guitarist Shane Sahene and Bobby Spell give us is fantastic: a series of remixes, remasters, and reinterpretations that stay true to the original songs but add a wonder sheen and urgency.
If the opener, “So Far Away” blends Cure-esque bass lines with, initially at least, Sisters guitar cascades, when the song really kicks in, it does so in a tsunami of squalling guitars and velocity that neither of those bands ever captured. By contrast, “Your Eden” is more reminiscent of bands like Clan of Xymox, that darkwave balance of synth strings and dance beats, here shot through with liquid post-punk guitars. “Blast” proves that when they choose to do less, the results are certainly more!
And beyond the remastered first disk of this double album release, the second slice is where the truly experimental stuff is found. “Turn Your Love Around” is a dark, shoegaze masterpiece, with guitars raw and razor-wired, and vocals merely distant cries lost in the sonic storm, and “For a Moment” sees them head into the sort of dance-meets-doom territory that Depeche Mode made their own.
What you have here is the best of many worlds. A reminder of how great the band was in the first place. An enhanced take on their original sound. Remixed versions of some of their rarer creations. Totally new takes and re-imaginings of songs across their career. What more could you ask for? -Dave Franklin

With positive reviews and a devoted following in the US and Europe, the album’s reach and reputation grew among fans of alternative and dark music.
Recorded at the height of the band’s rise, the album’s nine original tracks feature Shane Sahene (vocals and guitar), Marc Turina (bass), LP (drums), Scott Bedillion (guitar), and Dale Reckless (synthesizer). From Skylight
The 2025 Electro Mix of “Innocence” begins with a powerful beat, providing a progressive heartbeat that acts as the track’s backbone. Around it, vibrant layers of reverbed guitar appear, recalling the musicalrange of early U2 and The Chameleons’ dark melodic lines. These guitar sounds create an inviting haze, giving the tune a post-punk basis as well as a shoegaze-style dreaminess that feels nostalgic. The vocals creep in from the distance, as if echoing across an endless acoustic environment. This choice increases the song’s sense of distance and relaxation while allowing the instrumental sections to take in and evolve in the front. The vocal performance feels more like an emotion-filled presence than a direct narrative, haunting, hazy, and carefully hidden in the mix. As the remix develops, the electronic elements become more and more noticeable. Psychedelic touches flow around the beat, creating a gentle trance-like movement. More funky dance sounds develop, eventually turning the music from an unearthly guitar-driven song to a hypnotic electro-post-punk combination. The use of vocoder effects provides a particularly modern look. These futuristic vocal layers contrast with the traditional guitar tones, resulting in a duality of past and future, nostalgic on the one hand and futuristic on the other. The combination of sounds gives the mix its distinct identity: a dramatic, late-night sound that feels equally at home in a brightly colored club as it does in isolation with headphones.

From Myth of Rock
“For A Moment” has always been one of those tracks that you never forget and stay with you, long after the last listen. With the 2025 remaster, Lowsunday brings the song back into the light, restoring its emotional weight while also giving it a fresh clarity that highlights just how timeless their sound is. This track sits at the intersection of post-punk and dreamy shoegaze atmosphere, but what stands out most is the emotional pulse. Shane Sahene’s vocals are intimate and introspective — fragile but clear. He doesn’t oversing; instead, he lets the lyrics breathe. The guitars shimmer in a slow, layered haze, moving like a memory you’re trying to hold onto. The percussion is steady and controlled, letting the song expand and contract naturally, like a heartbeat.
The remaster sharpens everything that was already beautiful in the original recording. The guitars feel warmer, the bass sits deeper and the vocals have a little more space to unfold. Yet nothing feels modernized in the wrong way, the track still lives in that era of mid-90s alternative melancholy, where emotion and atmosphere were more important than loudness. This version gives “For A Moment” new life. It sounds like a message from the past, but it fits perfectly into the present. For fans of bands like Slowdive, The Chameleons, or early Radiohead, this track scratches that familiar itch — romantic, dark, and reflective, but never too dramatic. “For A Moment (electro mix 2025)” proves that Lowsunday had something real from the start, and that some songs don’t just age well, they grow. Rating: 8/10 -Dimitris Zacharopoulos

From Skylight
Lowsunday, a Pittsburgh-based alt-rock band, has released a 30th anniversary remaster of their popular debut album Low Sunday Ghost Machine. Let’s begin with going back 30 years. At the time, Low Sunday Ghost Machine was the band’s second attempt at a full-length album after the album planned to be their first was shelved. With excellent reviews and a committed following in the United States, Germany, and Italy, the album’s influence and reputation among the alternative and dark music communities increased. The bonus tracks include two newly remastered songs from the band’s mid-’90s recordings, as well as five new 2025 mixes and reworkings.
“For A Moment (2025 Electro Mix)” begins with rhythmic electro sounds that take the listener to the early 1980s, in-between between the synthetic perfection of early Depeche Mode and the raw minimalism of German EBM pioneers. The beat is strong and mechanical, but the synth layers have an air of warmth that prevents it from sounding dry. It’s the right combination of experimental sophistication and electropop purity. When the vocoder-distorted vocals arrive, the atmosphere grows darker. There’s a sad tone that reminds of The Cure’s darker times, which combines post-punk aesthetic with futuristic music. The song unfolds like a retro-futurist daydream, combining nostalgia with a strong modern touch. Lowsunday’s 2025 remix reinvents classic inspirations despite remaining elegant, hypnotic, and dramatic. “For A Moment” shows the ever-changing connection of past and future, when cold machinery vibrate with human feelings.
