Trials of the Writer” is the first ever solo album by the prolific singer/ songwriter Johnny Indovina. In true concept album form Indovina explores the highs and lows of dedicating ones life fully to the art of songwriting; holding nothing back as questions are raised, explored, and skillfully expressed in a fashion that is uniquely his own.
The opening track “The Writer” sets the tone for the journey the listener is about embark upon. “He sees a certain sadness in the wake of yesterdays, and he writes it all down.” Serving as an emotional memoir that spirals deep within, the feelings expressed in “Trials of the Writer” are truly gripping. “The Last Song” is the culmination of this internal dialogue.
Interesting to note that throughout this entire album Indovina is never addressing another person, when the word “you” is used it refers to the other half of himself… the writer who beckons him to continue and create.
Decades of writing, performing, and the moments between are finely distilled into this powerful album… a must listen for connoisseurs of story driven albums.
Produced by Michael Rozon, and featuring guest appearances by Brian Stoltz (Neville Brothers/ Bob Dylan/ Linda Ronstadt), Marc Ford (The Black Crows/ Neptune Blues Club) and Paul Allen (Big and Rich/ Adele/ Jewel),
