Chuck van Zyl

Work is the continuing process of creation, and a fundamental facet of Chuck van Zyl’s identity. His 30 years of music making has yielded a range of substantial album releases and collaborations. These Berlin-School expressions, realized in texture and atmosphere, draw on higher-order capacities.

For an even longer duration he has been host of the legendary radio program STAR’S END, and continues to earn respect, support and appreciation from an ever growing listenership. To provide rewarding experiences for performers and listener alike, 25 years ago Chuck van Zyl founded The Gatherings, which has become Philadelphia’s premiere concert series of innovative music.

Since childhood, he has been exploring a highly personal style of photography – which graces the covers of his albums, as well as those of select contemporaries.

To comprehend these spans, one cannot use a calendar. They may be better understood in terms of a lifetime. Yet, it’s remarkable that even after having traveled so far in this world, Chuck van Zyl still feels engaged and enlivened by it, and what is ahead.
