Late August has been a busy time for Sasha. Following Lisa's six week dr. check-up on the 14th, she was given the go-ahead to resume exercise, so Sasha started attending Baby and Me yoga twice a week. On August 21st, Sasha's Aunt Beki (my sister) flew up from Florida for a visit. On August 23rd, we rented a car and drove up to the Bronx to visit Sylvia Foont, Sasha's Great Great Aunt (my grandmother's sister). Sylvia is 92 and was really happy to have such a cute young visitor! After a stop at Baby's R Us (the first set of close-ups were taken while we were waiting in the parking lot), we returned to Queens for some porch-sitting, and then took off for dinner. All of these photos (except for the first six) were taken on the day of Sasha's visit to Sylvia. But before we begin... Sasha in his bouncy chair wearing a cute shirt that Voltaire gave him.... and then Sasha with his new pal, Sal Mineo (don't ask me about that name.... ask Lisa!! Though Sal did play the third Apeonaught in the third Planet of the Apes film, it wasn't my idea!!):

In the last few weeks, Sasha has begun smiling and finding things entertaining. He loves looking off at sparkly things, such as the sun shining through the leaves outside the bedroom window, the pots hanging on the rack in the kitchen and a metallic rattle we shake near him. Everyone asks if Sasha is keeping us up all the time... well, even though we look kinda tired in some of these shots, he's been a very kind baby. He sleeps a lot, and generally feeds around 11pm and then again around 4 or 5 am, so we get a nice long block of nappy time, before duty calls. I probably shouldn't say "we," because Lisa generally lets me sleep through the late-nite feeding. As she says: one of us needs to be alert and chipper to bring home the bacon during the work week. As I type this (Saturday, August 24th at 5:10 pm), Sasha, Lisa and Beki are in Chinatown having a girly-get-together with some of Lisa's friends. That's one travellin' baby!!! You might also notice that I discovered that my camera takes decent "close up" shots, when the flash is off and natural light illuminates the scene. As we spend a good deal of time with our face up close to Sasha ("who's a cute baby! who's a cute baby!") I thought a few of these close-ups would make a nice memory. While passing time in Baby'sR'Us (wait till you see his halloween outfit!), we were playing "Can see / Can't see" as I covered and uncovered Sasha's eyes with a napkin. He seemed to enjoy that game. Sasha also enjoys (or at least pretends to enjoy) "Tap your head. Tap your nose. Tap your knees. Tap your toes" (each named body part followed by me bring his hands up to tap the appropriate area). Oh and Sasha's a fan of the bath. I sit in the water sideways in the tub, with my back against one side, and my legs up against the other -- then I sit him with his head resting against my legs, and his butt on my stomache. Sasha really likes watching the water run out of the faucet, reflecting in the light. I'll squirt it at his belly, and he likes to lick the water that lands on his lips.... so many more photos that need to be shot. Sasha is eight weeks old today!
