Sasha's 2nd Trip to Europe!
Lisa, Sasha + Sam went on vacation in Europe from October 26 through November 6th, visiting the capitals of Germany and the Czech Republic

From JFK, we flew to the Zurich airport for our connecting flight into Berlin. During our 4 hour layover, we went to the door marked "Nursery" expecting to find a little baby changing station. Instead, we found an area the size of a pre-school, with toys, changing tables, high chairs, cribs ... everything a family would need to pass hours in an airport. Sasha poses with a little swiss-air plane....

In Berlin, at the Zoo, the modern art museum, in front of the Brandenberg Gate and dressed as a bat in the hotel room.

Taking the train to Prague, then in the hotel room.

Two photos merged to show the view out of our second hotel room window. We stayed in this same room in 2001, when Sasha was only a few weeks old (in utero).

This trip celebrated Sam's 38th birthday. Looking up to a plaque for Franz Kafka, Prague's famous son...

Art Noveau in Prague. Mucha - the father of the art noveau movement - came from the Czech Republic. The movement's influence is very apparent on the city. it was all the rage in the years leading up to about 1920.

A much more modern movement! You can read more about Frank Gehry's
Dancing Building in Prague here - including pictures of the construction!

We took a day trip to The Ossuary in Sedlec, a church in the small city of Kutna Hora, about 60 miles from Prague. All of the ornamentation inside of the church was made of bones. Spooky Images, proceed at your own peril! : ) click on the skulls to see images from Kutna Hora:
Most people in Prague speak English, but once you get out into the countryside, that really changes. Never-the-less, these three brave troopers made it to the church, looked around, walked back to the bus stop, found a sandwich and got back on the bus in time to make it back to Prague.

Inside the Prague Castle.

The little grassy area at the end of the old castle steps

In the hotel room, Sam tries to stay awake near the end of his birthday. Also, the hand painted ceiling.

The Prague Zoo, which was devastated in the flood of August 2002.

Obligatory photo of Sasha sleeping on the plane ride home:

As you can see from the photos, Sasha is now walking. He began at about 15 months, which some people say is "late" -- but it seemed just right for him! He's also saying some words: "hi," "hello," "mama," "baby," "dada," "belly" "g" (which means either dog or god or fun or play or just about anything else), "toos" (which means shoes), "noh" (which means nose), and animal noses such as "bah," "buck, buck, buck" and "mooooo." what a cutie!!!
