Early November 2002 | Halloween came and went; unfortunately Sasha was feeling under the weather when the big evening arrived. He greeted a few trick-or-treaters in his green dragon outfit, but he was sick with a cold, so he went up to bed... leaving Sam to say "and what exactly are you dressed up as?" Here are a few more of Sasha in halloween-themed outfits...

Sasha spends every night in our bedroom, mostly in his bassinet but often joining us in bed for late-night feeding and more sleeping. It's much more relaxing to have him in the room with us (rather than in his own room down the hall), we know when he's asleep or when he is in need of something.... As the weather turned colder, it was time for staying snuggly warm in bed. These shots are from a morning in early November, around 10 am. Sasha has already been up for breakfast but is taking a quick catnap in his bassinet, which he has practically outgrown....
Our friend Missi knitted Sasha the lovely blanket.

People often are surprised when we tell them that Sasha is only 4 months and a few days old. He's very tall for his age - in the 95% percentile - while he's in the 50th percentile (right in the middle) for his weight. This means we have a long skinny boy! Sasha tries out his stroller for the first time. He has no trouble sitting up-right, which begins a new era of mobility for Sasha... and his folks get to learn more about carrying a stroller down into the subway!

Sasha finds it very funny to rub Sam's face. rough. rough. rough. Sometimes he almost cackles at this. We need to find new ways to keep him amused. Yesterday's activities aren't as interesting today.

november 18, 2003 | The photos on the right, below, look out our bedroom window, with one picture every morning over the course of four days. Fall is here. Now where's that shot of Sam sweeping up all the leaves? And when are those people gonna move that red car!?!? : ) On the left is the smiling baby boy that Lisa and I see all the time. Hi Sasha!!!

while bouncing sasha, i was looking out the window this morning. i noticed squirrels running around wildly in the fallen leaves in the backyard. "what are those little guys up to?" i asked sasha. he couldn't say. the lead squirrel, with a mouthful of leaves, ran up the tree by the street; we noticed that where two branches forked, there was a pretty sizeable squirrel nest, 90% completed. as leaf-carrier went into the nest, another squirrel dashed out. those little guys were sure busy, getting their house ready for winter. back and forth they went, carrying leaves, putting them in the right place, crawling under the fence, chasing each other across the top of the fence. getting it all just right. "how can they run up a tree, with a mouth full of leaves blocking their eyes?" i asked sasha. he couldn't say. i suspect there must be a useful metaphor in this story, somewhere...

Lisa suggests the metaphor is:
"you often can't see where you're going, but you're still working towards your goal."

Sasha's head control is getting much better. Occasionally he even goes two minutes on his stomache holding his head up before he begins to fuss. One day - when looking at kid books in Borders - Lisa pulled Sasha up by his arms and made him dance about on his feet (as if standing up). He really loved that... so we started more physical play. Yes; he's not a china doll. He's not gonna break....
