"Autumn's Grey Solace have rebuilt the shimmering craft of ethereal/shoegazer rock and have equipped it with their own essentials. Erin Welton's luminous vocals are untethered and airy, but her tenderness keeps her real, while Scott Ferrell's guitar envelops and cushions her in a fabric of smoothly shifting color and texture." - Gothic Beauty
The flame of inspiration continues to burn brightly on Ablaze, the fifth album (in six years) from ethereal shoegaze artists Autumn's Grey Solace. Ablaze contains eleven tracks of passionately created dreampop gems. Erin Welton's crystal clear vocal melodies soar into the heavens while Scott Ferrell's lush backdrop of guitars and other stringed instruments are richly orchestrated, with great attention paid to clarity and detail. The music is alive with blazing, echoing guitar chords, sun-kissed vocal harmonies, and a blistering rhythm section. Ablaze is a warm, glowing version of shoegaze, and celebrates the beauty and romanticism of the genre.
"Scott Ferrell's gorgeous treated guitars, Welton's honey voice, and a Lush-ious late-night, glide through wintry evergreens ears -- like the later Cocteaus circa Heaven and Las Vegas or Milk & Kisses. Love it." - The Big Takeover

Arcana's approach to neo-classical and symphonic-ambient could well be defined in the meaning of the word "Arcana" itself: specialized knowledge of something generally considered a mystery or a secret. On their sixth album, Raspail, the powerfully moving music of this Swedish quintet creates an atmosphere which weaves together lush elements familiar to Arcana fans old and new. Mystery, silence and revealed secrets are interconnected within the 10 new songs.
"Arcana is the only worthy successor to Dead Can Dance. Both groups create music that draws on older traditions, yet seems otherworldly; both utilize the sounds of forgotten instruments and evocative male and female vocals." - Liarsociety.com

A budget $4.98 list-priced collection of ethereal, gothic, dark cabaret, neo-folk and darkAmbient artists. The latest in Projekt's successful series of budget samplers features early 2008 releases, including six unreleased tracks. Exclusive to this release is "Rock of Ages (radio edit)," from the new Attrition album.
Chandeen returns with another timeless jewel. As one of the originators of the genre that came to be known as "Heavenly Voices," Harald Löwy remains as chief song-writer and instrumentalist, with a new vocalist for this incarnation of Chandeen: Julia Beyer who lends a more fragile, autumn character to the songs. These songs sound more inspired, more intimate and yes, in some respects more mature and developed then past releases. Julia Beyer's sad, but strong voice stands in sympathetic contrast and floats in concurrent harmony with Löwy's tearfully beautiful songs.

A haunting brew of darkAmbient electronic soundscapes & neo-classical strings with Ned Kirby of Stromkern and Erica Mulkey of Rasputina (and darkwave darling Emilie Autumn providing vocals and violins on one track). All mine enemys whispers (The Story of Mary Ann Cotton) limited first edition of 1000 includes set of 4 reproduction stickers of original victorian poison bottle labels!
Completed on Oct. 31, 2007, this is no ordinary Halloween album; Mary Ann Cotton's story (augmented by the real-life connection between the album's composer and the killer herself) will do a much better job keeping you up at night than any slasher film killer or long-haired Japanese ghost child. The music is a haunting brew of electronic soundscapes, neo-classical strings, and eerie children's voices. Shuffling sounds, anxiously scraped strings and electronic drones create the mood, while ex-Courtney Love band violinist Emilie Autumn conjures up a momentary sense of pity for the condemned killer with her sorrowful vocal rendition on the album's climax, a submersive darkAmbient gem which incorporates the hymn "Rock of Ages."
All mine enemys whispers features Ned Kirby of Stromkern, Erica Mulkey of Unwoman and Rasputina, and Laurie Reade of High Blue Star and Pigface.
"As subtly chilling a thing as you'll ever hear. If you're brave, you can listen to All mine enemys whispers in the dark, but you might want to pull the covers over your head just to be on the safe side." - REGEN magazine, USA

As one of the great pioneers of electronic music, Steve?s career has many musical highpoints; Arc of Passion proves to be another definitive statement along the path.
Steve reaches into his sonic palette to weave elements of his three definitive styles into a continuous, evolving flow. Rich harmonic chords, spiraling sequencers and deep sky soundworlds move fluidly within this 2-hour set. Arc of Passion seamlessly fuses three long unfolding soundworlds into a dynamic sonic odyssey. A vibrant immediacy is alive on Arc of Passion; the sonic textures and evolving nature of the pieces reach into the core of the present moment bringing it into form with elegance and energy.
Eleusian Lullaby is a sensual ethereal-ambient collaboration between Italian soundsculptor Stefano Musso (aka Alio Die) and Italian singer Martina Galvagni. It is the third CD of Alio Die?s vocal collaborations following 2001?s Apsaras (with Amelia Cuni) and 2005?s Mei-Jyu (with Jack or Jive).
Eleusian Lullaby blends natural, warm and earthy ambient compositions with elegant, sparse, neo-classical vocals, merging notes and silence into an expanded dreamscape. This is lullaby music like an aural caress from darkness into the light. The combination of the vocal melodies with the abstract qualities of the loops and instruments creates a striking landscape, intimate and sensual at the same time.
Listen to this trance music in the dark and be lead to a tranquil earthly garden. Like in the best lullabies, you are caressed as you are transported to a mysterious parallel soundworld of peace and harmony.

Love Spirals Downwards are the unconscious mind of ethereal music, evoking forgotten memories with subjective, alien tongues. The sounds drift dreamily through one's thoughts like incense permeates the air -- perhaps the spicy fragrance will seduce you like a lover to its heat, or else it will elude the threshold of perception and weave itself into the mind's strata of buried experiences . . . The result of this Easternish atmosphere, with delicate guitar and ebbing, oceanic female vocals is a taste of the watery, warm, and sweet elements of the earth.

Dark holiday tracks from all your favorites. Spend the holidays in style this year. No more barking dogs or Perry Como for you, uh-uh! While away the frigid hours until the important day with strains of Voltaire's eclectic "Peace in the Holy Land," Black Tape For A Blue Girl's crusade "Chanukkah, Oh Chanukkah," The Crüxshadows' electro-pop take on Lennon/Ono's "Happy Xmas (War is Over)," and Faith and the Muse bringing you the pagan madrigal "A Winter Wassail." All graced by our lovely Dark Angel prepared to brighten many a dark holiday night. Spend the season right, this year. Turn down the lights . . . it's a dark noel!
The Boston Phoenix: Various luminaries of goth cover traditional holiday fare in this compilation. Love Spirals Downward applies a Cocteau Twins-like sound to "Welcome Christmas" with Suzanne Perry's angelic vocals; Faith & the Muse lend their Renaissance rendition of "A Winter Wassail." And led by an eerie group of singers, Black Tape for a Blue Girl's "Chanukkah O Chanukkah" brims with dark gothic overtones. For balance, there are a few more-traditional renditions. This is the perfect Xmas album to play for friends and family to make the holiday just a wee bit weird.

"It's a Halloween party in a jewel-box," Voltaire comments about Ooky Spooky, his most hilariously irreverent CD to date. Years in the making, Voltaire's 5th album contains a duet with The Dresden Dolls' Amanda Palmer, a track from a Cartoon Network movie plus his crowd-pleasing songs about zombies, devils and dancing skeletons. In fact necrophilia, cannibalism, prostitution, buggery, blasphemy, sacrilege, going to hell, bombing New Jersey and anal rape with a lightsaber are just a few of the charming topics covered on Ooky Spooky.
Back are the violins and cellos but new to the Voltaire sound is a horn section that brings to mind images of a mariachi skeleton band. But there is no doom and gloom here, mind you. The album bounces along with a mixture of klezmer, swing and ska that brings to mind such spooky-fun classics as Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party" or "Hell" by the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Voltaire's love for Cab Calloway is evident in the song "Cannibal Buffet" (which seems straight from a Betty Boop cartoon) and more so in "Land of the Dead" which Voltaire wrote for the opening credit sequence of the Cartoon Network movie "Billy and Mandy's Big Boogie Adventure."
As serious as it gets on Ooky Spooky is "Stuck With You," a duet with The Dresden Dolls' Amanda Palmer. It's about a bickering married couple, but even on this one kittens are drowned, Korean bayonets are employed and skeletons sing to each other from side-by-side coffins. "I got all of the serious songs out of the way on Then And Again," comments Voltaire, "specifically so that Ooky Spooky could be a non-stop party of fun songs about the undead and hell and devils and skeletons and all of the other fun stuff that's so close to my heart."

Exploring the vast isolation of cold, dark space, POD creates a chilling ambient environment. Detaching and drawing back into itself like droplets of mercury, expanding and contracting into eternity, it calls out like a haunting beacon signaling to earth from the deep reaches of space.
Inspired metaphorically by the 2001: a space odyssey character Dave Bowman, by the absence of human civilization, and by the texture of pure sound, As Lonely as Dave Bowman explores the next stage of ambient drone. POD crafts a singular sound of metaphoric loneliness that is not just a strand that drifts through space but is an enveloping, permeating cloud. It travels in an infinite trajectory, exploring the realm of the unknown.
For this recording, Sam worked in the studio in new and organic ways. Forsaking his usual melodic and lyrical approach to song-writing, he quickly developed musical pieces that are principally texture and spacial landscapes, created from a flow of synthetically produced loops and old-fashioned outboard effects.
Ground-breaking and critically acclaimed in their time (1990-2001), Spiders, Aether & Rain features thirteen tracks spanning the entire TTTS oeuvre. This album is released in a limited edition Digi-Pak with newly created cover artwork by vocalist Ingrid Blue, plus a 12 page booklet filled with rare and previously unseen photos! Extensive liner notes, an unreleased track (from 1997's unfinished Equinox session), and Trance to the Sun?s ultra-rare cover version of the Cocteau Twins ?When Mama Was Moth? round out this no-holds-barred release. It?s definitely a must have!
ALTERNATIVE PRESS: A brand of music which incorporates elements of experimental, goth, ambient and rock into an ethereal stew, emphasizing cyclical trance structures around which the various elements interweave.
HIDDEN SANCTUARY: Trance to the Sun created a legacy of music that is at once entertaining as it is intelligent... all of their work will continue to be regarded as legendary, groundbreaking and proficient.
THROWRUG MAGAZINE: If you like early Cocteau Twins, evocative female vocals and swirling psychedelic gothic guitars, you?ll like Trance to the Sun.

Focusing on ambient "zones" created as tone meditations for the living space, immersion : three is destined to create a new benchmark in the long-form ambient genre. With one composition per disc, the nearly 4 hours of all-new material on immersion : three display Steve's quiet mastery of the immersive ambient genre.
Gently effective at low volume, the non-dynamic nature of these spaces supports focused day and night activities. Minimal in nature and sonically uninterrupted for 74 minutes per disc, these pieces bring Steve's years as a sound painter of deep subtle spaces to a rarified point in time.
immersion : three is perfect for creative states, sleeping, reading, long hours at the computer and other functions where traditional music could be considered invasive. This release is especially effective in dissolving the sense of linear time.

Projekt is proud to announce their new signing: Tearwave, a gorgeous Shoegazer / Dream-Pop quartet from one of the snowiest and depressed cities in America: Buffalo, NY.
Shoegaze is alive and well in Tearwave. A decade after bands like Lush, Slowdive and Ride rose and fell into obscurity, Tearwave comes to fill the void. Not just a re-creation of things tried and true, but a decade wiser and mature. Tearwave integrates sounds echoed from the spectrum of Shoegaze music, yet rarely mimics their influences; Tearwave takes their cues then creates a whole new supernova of sound for a current generation of indie-rock listeners.
Jenn Manganiello's luscious vocals dig deep into the listener's subconscious soul with her red-wine melodies and the distant warmth of her lyrics. Doug White's guitars and keyboards soothe and drive with melodic darkness. John Stephanski's arsenal of vintage drums and percussive instruments lay a pounding foundation while Joe Villella's solid bass battens down the hatches to round out Tearwave's monumental sound.
Tearwave's compact, tight and driving songs are infused with an uneasy haunting mood; their music is dark and moody with an edge of troubling inspiration. This spellbinding sound has the genre's enthusiasts spreading a frenzied buzz about Tearwave. U.S. and Europe Shoegaze and Darkwave message boards and blogs have been full of Tearwave references since the band?s appearance on MySpace just a few months ago.

An ethno-heavenly voices collaboration from the members of Rajna + Gor.
The Spirit Rises is released in a limited hand-numbered first edition of 1000, in a earth-friendly recycled chipboard DVD-sized Digi-pak.
Khvarena is a journey across time and countries, into the ethno-heavenly voices realm from which the spirit will arise. Khvarena is a striking encounter between Europe's North and South: the Italian maestro Francesco Banchini of Gor and France's Jeanne & Fabrice Lefebvre of Rajna. Together they create The Spirit Rises , the first steps of a journey from the European continent to the countries of the Middle East; lush and majestic at times, ritual and devotional at others, and sometimes festive and cathartic. A myriad of ethnic instruments (clarinet, saz, zurna, bendir, riq, derbouka, santoor, medieval flute, tampura, udu, singing bowls, swara tampura, crotal, bouzouki...) accompany the entertwined vocals of Jeanne and Francesco, singing lyrics inspired by Firdausi, a 10th century Persian poet. This is music of brightness, color and emotion with enrapturous Arabic overtones.

Roach's Immersion series is especially effective at low volume playback levels as the non-dynamic nature of this soundworld can support creative states, sleeping as well as reading and other functions where "music" is considered invasive (for example yoga, meditation, massage, or any other activity that calls upon the art of blending). Presented as a continuous zone with no real beginning or end, this 73 minute space is even more effective in dissolving the sense of linear time by simply activating repeat mode on the CD player and letting it play all day and night at a quiet volume level.
"The breakup of the Cocteau Twins in the mid-'90s left a void in the realm of ethereal shoegazer music that many thought could never be filled. But wow, Autumn's Grey Solace comes darn close. The duo of guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Scott Ferrell and vocalist/lyricist Erin Welton creates an angelic soundscape that is unquestionably reminiscent of the Cocteaus. If Welton isn't as 'otherly' as Fraser, she makes up for it with a more sustained sweetness of tone and a complete lack of histrionics." - Playback St. Louis
