Composed primarily for a KLEM electronic music festival in Europe and issued as a limited-edition release, Klemania is not only Franke's best record thus far but also easily the finest recording to emerge from any of the related Tangerine Dream camps in the '90s. Here, diversity is the prime element and creativity is the mother of invention.

The 22-minute epic "Scattered Thoughts of a Canyon Flight" opens with surging tidal waves of low-BPM techno--beats that wouldn't be at all out of place in a sweaty rave--and devolves into a colorful cosmic panorama, bristling with rosy red nebulae and the curling fog of synthetic noble gases. "Inside the Morphing Space," the second 20-minute-plus track, rides through just as many riveting electronic strata, alive and dancing with the dramatic tension that made classic TD tracks such as "Ricochet" and "Thru Metamorphic Rocks" so unforgettable. Finally, the closing four minutes of "Silent Waves" bubble and pulse on warm cushions of champagne sequencers. Franke's compositional abilities are still enormously viable.
