Mexican Import at a Domestic Price | This album is one of the classics from the Hyperium-era of Heavenly Voices, finally back in print after a very long absence! “When the female vocalist sings, my heart misses another beat.” - Music From The Empty Quarter. Urthona has sold more than 14.000 copies worldwide and was a milestone in the young ‘heavenly voices’-movement. sToa 1992 were composer/musician Olaf Parusel and female vocalist Conny Levrow. Both have extensive classical training, which is quite effectively reflected in their music. Conny is an accomplished violinist, but her involvement with Stoa is mostly vocal in nature. Olaf provides the accompaniment and composes the pieces they perform. A masterpiece of art!
“Stoa's music occupies that elegant realm midway between ethereal Gothicism and Baroque. Like In The Nursery, Stoa is orchestral in scope, though no attempt is made to totally disguise its synthetic origins.” -- Alternative Press.
Some fantastic fan reviews from Amazon.com:
| 5 of 5 Stars | Masterpiece, February 1, 2004 by Nikotino from Russia. Being one of the first bands to introduce me with Gothic music it made me amazed. The voice of the singer is so clear and tender that your ears are eager for it more and more. I also loved the mystical sounds of the music and could hardly believe they were born from a synthesizer. All I can say is "magnificent, placid, mystical". The only pity is that there are so few people know about this miracle.
| 5 of 5 Stars | beautiful and full of sorrow, March 11, 2000 by Peter C.Wisniowski (see more about me) from La Mirada. I was introduced to STA music by my friend, and from the moment I listen to it I could not stop my player until I went three times thru the whole tracks. Stoa music is not for easy listener, but is great to send you away to past, forgotten lands. It will induce emotions and long after you will be haunted by its beauty. I specially liked "Infant Joy", "Taumel" and "Stoa" tracks.
| 4 of 5 Stars | Eerie and classical, January 22, 2000 by Tezhina Bradley from Baltimore, Maryland. Stoa's music has been unavailable for sometime. I first heard Urthona about four years ago. Their music is rich and textured, with hints of gothic and classical. It is an overall eerie and pleasant effect.
