ConSono create wonderfully illusive music of a nomadic quality; this is music culled from mysterious lands, shrouded in secrecy, constructed like sculptures molded in sand (and just as easily sifting like sand through an hourglass of wizened fingers). Each song seems a puzzlebox that, when opened, savors the smells of uncommon herbs and wiry wisps of incense that coil around the brain and enlighten the senses; delights in the subtle rituals of transient exile; surprises with revelations previously only spoken of in forgotten, dead languages: the essence of the mirage made stone. Ignoto Deo is the second release by ConSono, the first being a collection of odds n' ends material, Hymns of Deceased Deities, on Sweden's preeminent label of cataclysmic darkness, Cold Meat Industry. The music here is more enigmatic than dark, more streamlined and focused, of a single vision as opposed to the scattered (though very pleasing) remnants found on the first disc The music itself is sensuous and alive, full of quirky rhythms that seem intent on slipping away into darkened alleys; of cadences that whisper, and timbres that breathe; of sonorous vocals that narrate the tales that compliment the delicate atmospheres created here; of lyrics that further enhance the mood, hence: "I was travelling on dusty roads in a world without a name" from "The Pilgrim Song," or perhaps, "There is a throne on a shore/Where the dawn is slow to break/In the silver sand in a conquered land/The horizon is a banner of fire" from "A Broken Dream." Images mystical and surreal, gothic-tinged but with a decidedly oblique perspective. Wrapped in shadows and ringed with shimmering jewels, the musical gems bestowed by ConSono have an extraordinary glimmer that brings magic to the listener's ears... [JC Smith / Outburn Magazine]
