German Import | Their seventh album, Songs from the Inverted Womb is dedicated to the "memory and resurrection" of Little Seven, a boy who died when he was six years old. This album was recorded in an attempt to resurrect at least the memory of the boy, producing some rather grim tales, especially the climactic opus "There was a Country by the Sea". The music, now featuring a group of around ten guest musicians, contains many more cohesive and flowing arrangements reminiscent of progressive rock.

Dark chamber-music of most infinite sadness... - perhaps this is the only adequate way to describe this work of this German based gothic/avantgarde project called SOPOR AETERNUS. A sombre orchestra fuses stings, brass and woodwinds to an unique blend, in order to illustrate their - partially disturbing - lyrics and bring them to a strange life, which might best be compared to a Jungian descend into the dark night of the soul. Never before SOPOR AETERNUS have sounded as intensive as on their latest concept-album... - yet, at the same time, their music has never been more beautiful!

Anna-Varney seems to have withdrawn from the realm of the living eventually, but what (s)he reveals to us, is already far more than just the album of the year.
