An Opera for Four Fusion Works is a unique project by vidnaObmana and Hypnos -- a four-CD album, released one CD at a time. The first disc was released in a case that has space to hold all four discs, so discs 2, 3 and 4 will be packaged in a paper sleeve only, with CD and booklet to be inserted in the Opera Act I case. The listener can then purchase the later installments as they are released gradually over the next year or two, and insert them into the case.
In each of the four chapters or "Acts," Belgian ambient/experimental artist Vidna Obmana reworks or "recycles" the sound sources of a different musician or group. "Act Two" of the Opera is Phrasing the Air featuring soprano saxophone recordings by Bill Fox. The result is a beautiful collaging of textures, very different from the sound of "Act One," but utilizing the same approach. Vidna Obmana continues the bold artistic exploration he began on Hypnos with LANDSCAPE IN OBSCURITY (which Hypnos listeners may remember also involved VidnaObmana's treatment of saxophone recordings), continued with the diptych THE SURREAL SANCTUARY and THE CONTEMPORARY NOCTURNE, and most recently the two-disc SOUNDTRACK FOR THE AQUARIUM.
