Biography
Chandeen are based in Frankfurt, Germany and were formed in 1992 by keyboarder, composer and "mastermind" Harald Löwy and Oliver Henkel. Chandeen have quickly become one of Germany's finest and best reputated acts for ethereal wave-pop. Their unique melodic vocal style, performed by two female vocalists and Löwy's exotic-sophisticated yet very accessible electronic pop-soundscapes made them ever popular since their first release Shaded by the leaves was released in 1994. Löwy, who had a long training in piano and percussion playing, investigates the estethics of electronic pop music. It was no surprise that Chandeen instantly got good media attention - the press raved about the professional production and the beauty of Chandeen's songs - and vocalists.
To further explore their unique stlye, their second album Jutland was composed out at the lonely shores of Denmark, far away from the big city life of Frankfurt. Jutland was released in January '95 and got highly acclaimed. The single "Strawberry Passion" got airplay on national radio and the album includes referrences to classic ballads, modern wave, ethereal soundscapes with New Age influence as well as bombastic pop-hymns. Also, more acoustic instruments were involved in the production - wich resulted in a warm mixture of electronic and acoustic sounds. Chandeen have created their own style - a new and beautiful kind of pop music.
After the release of Jutland the line-up of Chandeen changed - Catrin and Oliver left the band - and Stephanie Härich joined as a new second vocalist and gave her singing debut on Chandeen's release Light within Time - a most unusual mini-album conisiting of 6 very different wave-pop ballads as well as an instrumental remix by the grandmaster of new ambient music, Steve Roach. Light within Time, which also includes a video on CD-ROM track, was released to accompany the very first concerts of Chandeen in autumn '95. Their first live shows left both fans and journalists impressed by their charming performance. Chandeen's musical line-up for consists of Harald Löwy (keys & production), and the two vocalists Antje Schulz and Stephanie Härich. In November '96 Chandeen have released their most ambitious and best album so far - The Waking Dream - which they introduced during a recent tour in autumn with STOA, Black Rose, and La Floa Maldita.
In April 1997, Chandeen have left the Hyperium label and will release their following albums on SPV.
