On Attrition’s latest release, Martin Bowes - accompanied by Julia Waller - illustrates why he’s managed to compose numerous albums without sounding like darkwave’s other merchants. Regardless of how he walks in his own footsteps, Bowes has here created one of his best releases to date. The electronics are smooth, sounding as if they’re computer generated, while every other element seems organic. Bowes and Waller often overlap each other, with his dark semi-spoken delivery creating the perfect foil for her eerie operatic wail. Their style caters to the clad-in-black Nosferatu followers and the club-stomping cyberpunks, and it’s this dichotomy that has defined them. -8 Rowan-Morrison
