The U.S. Plan to Overthrow the Government of Iraq

I was reading the New York Times this weekend; an editorial said something to the effect of "George Bush's plan to overthrow the government in Iraq." Hmmmm? When it's phrased that way -- rather than the Orwellian compassionate-conservative "Regime Change" toe-tapper -- it puts what America's about to do in a whole different light. W isn't looking to do something polite like "regime change" -- he's gonna use America's military to overthrow the government of a foreign power. For one, I don't think that's the sorta thing our government should be doing. They've done it in Afghanistan, Iraq is next. I'm sure he's eyeing Iran, and if that U.N. Vote doesn't go his way, I bet France is getting pretty high on the hit list....

Yet, I do have a good idea about overthrowing the government... it's the Republicans who need to be overthrown. In your local state governor election, in the House and in the Senate... it's time to run out as many Republicans as possible. Tell me why it is that Germany had over 80% turnout in their recent election, while America had what, 33% in 2000? George Bush is the president of 17% of America! It's time to get motivated, get out of your chair and vote. Ok, not yet. Wait till election day in November. But start thinking about it.....

And let me tell you why... We need liberals in office to keep those conservative bastards at bay. While the Republicans used to be the party of small government, they're now the party of bankrupt government. They're actually ok with a war that might cost $270 Billion to fight, not counting 5+ years of post-victory Occupation.

I'm sorry, but we need to get our heads on straight, and get the U.S. Economy turned around. I know there are better ways to spend $270,000,000,000 dollars...... I suspect we could have Free National Health Care and free college educations, just for starters.

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said he wondered what Bush's real goal was.
"Is it regime change in Iraq or regime change in the Senate?"

Don't let the president divert your attention from the Economy. That's what this Iraq war is.... make it unpatriotic to point out the problems here at home. Vote for your Democratic Governor and Democrats in the House and Senate. Of course, if you have a viable Green in your area, vote for them! So do your civic duty and vote in November...

Bush's disdain for the rest of the world is sure to create what the wonks call blowback. We're going to pay one way or the other for arrogance. Wise men know this. Jimmy Carter wrote in the Washington Post last week about Bush's unilateralism: 'Peremptory rejections of nuclear arms agreements, the biological weapons convention, environmental protection, anti-torture proposals, and punishment of war criminals have sometimes been combined with economic threats against those who might disagree with us. These unilateral acts and assertions increasingly isolate the United States. ...' "

Well, I was wrong with my prediction that W would start the war machine by the end of August. Except for the fact that - face it - no matter what the UN or Congress says, he's going to War. It's just a matter of when. Pentagon Advisor Richard Perle told the New York Times last month: "The failure to take on Saddam after what the president said would produce such a collapse of confidence in the president that it would set back the war on terrorism."

Basically Perle's saying that now that Bush has made reckless threats to invade Iraq, if he weren't to follow through it would make America look bad. Very interesting strategy. "I'm sorry, I had to kill you. Because I threatened to Kill you. And if I didn't your friends would beat me up." Wow... Good thing we have the major intellects planning America's

Another thing I'd like to mention is Germany. I'm glad that Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder retained power in Germany. Perhaps he's the only sane leader left in the world. He knows his people doesn't want to go to war, and rather than sucking up to W, he made it clear that this is what he stood for. Now the Bush Government is going to ostracize Germany, and treat them with disresect. Well, wow! excuse the man for having an opinion.
