The historic Trocadero Theatre, listed on the National Registry of Historic Places is Located at 10th and Arch streets. It was first opened in 1870, offering musical comedies and traveling minstrel shows. Later, vaudeville and burlesque came to its stage, and later still, it was refurbished for use as an art house cinema and fine arts theatre. In 1986, the Trocadero was again remodeled for its current use as a concert hall and dance club. The latest remodeling, in 1996, was the most extensive in recent history, The Trocadero is the only 19th century Victorian theatre still in operation in the United States. Utmost care has been taken to modernize the facility while retaining its historical character. Due to the historical nature of the building and the efforts to preserve it, smoking is only permitted in designated smoking areas.

St. Mary's is located on the University of Pennsylvania's campus in an historic building with lovely stained glass. The cornerstone for the original church was laid in 1824. The architecture reflects the Gothic revival style popular at that time. When St. Philip's Parish merged with St. Mary's in 1937, their beautiful wooden altar was installed in what is now named St. Philip's Chapel, where weekday services are held. Over the past 20 or 30 years, St. Mary's has always been there for the various communities that exist on the fringes of mainstream society. The church offers food and other assistance to the more needy people of the West Phila/Ucity community; they've also been there for the gay community. St. Mary's has featured exceptional electronic music performances since the early 80s.
