The Cheapest trip from New York City to Philadelphia
Wow! NJ Transit has one way tickets for $17.40 from Manhattan. The trip takes longer than Amtrak, but it saves you money. Visit the site by clicking here, and then enter the following...

1. Starting Point: NEW YORK PENN STATION
2. Destination: 30TH STREET STATION
3. Enter the time and date of your travel
4. Chose ALL

The next page will ask you to chose which city (Philadelphia!) and then - shazam! - it gives you an intinerary from PENN STATION on New Jersey Transit to Trenton, NJ, where you switch to SEPTA (Trenton R7 Line) into downtown Philadelphia.

According to our friend Chuck in Philadelphia, if you remain on the SEPTA R7op for two more stops past 30TH STREET STATION, you can get off at the MARKET EAST STATION, only a few blocks from the Trocadero. Check the map when you are on the SEPTA. This link shows you the itinerary on the SEPTA website. If there is a problem, get off at the 30TH STREET STATION and take a 19 block cab ride to the Trocadero.

Of course, you can also use their service from New Jersey cities. Lots more info on their website. Call The Transit Information Center between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and midnight at (800) 772-2222 within N.J. or (973) 762-5100 out of state.

Things we learned when touring.
black tape for a blue girl's rules of the road:
1. Never stop at Dennys, unless you have a lot of time to kill
2. Stop whenever you see a Waffle House
3. Never get off the freeway for gas, unless you can *see* the Gas station. (you don't wanna drive 10 miles into the woods to find that the station is closed at night).
4. Book your hotel rooms ahead of time. Driving from hotel to hotel at 2 am to find one with a vacancy is a drag.
5. Never park your car where you can't see it. If you can watch it, bad guys won't touch it.
6. DUMMY CHECK before your leave your hotel room. Don't leave without triple checking for your stuff. Don't put stuff in the drawers.
7. Western Pennsylvania gets REALLY foggy in the early mornings, so plan extra driving time if you are coming in from the West.
8. If you are driving a long haul, go past a major city before getting a room for the night. Last thing you wanna have to do is go around the Washington beltway during morning rush hour.
9. If the motel lobby smells like freshly cooked Indian food (or you can see a family living in the office, cooking up masala), it's gonna be a good stay.
10. New Jersey is confusing. Off ramps that seem to lead to gas stations lead to other freeways, you have to make those left turns from the right hand side thingies, and they don't let you pump your own gas. On the other hand.......
Have fun
