No. 2 (1912).
The Philadephia Museum of Art
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is among the largest and most important art museums in the United States. They have the largest permanent Marcel Duchamp collection in the world (a must see, if you are a fan of Black tape for a blue girl's as one aflame... album), plus more art then you could expect to absorb in three days of gallery walking. Plan at least three hours, just for the 20th Century selection! The collection of Asian art, with objects dating from the third millenium B.C. to the present, includes ceramics, sculpture, paintings, and decorative objects as well as a Japanese ceremonial teahouse, a Chinese palace hall, and a celebrated collection of Oriental carpets. The European collections include medieval sculpture, stained glass, and a 13th-century French cloister; masterpieces of Renaissance painting; a suite of 18th-century French interiors; and superb Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings. The art of the 20th century can be traced from the early innovations of Picasso, Braque, Matisse, and Duchamp to great works of abstract expressionism, pop art, color field painting, and contemporary work in many media.

Things to do in Philadelphia
by maura johnston http://maura.com/

While boxers and beef might be what Philadelphia's known for best, there's more to Philadelphia life than just meat. A (somewhat biased) sampling of Philadelphia's offerings in food, drink, and shopping:

Down South
South Street has long been known for being Philadelphia's bastion of 'alternative culture'- but while Gaps and Taco Bells have made inroads, it's still the best place to find a record store where plunking down your dollars is worth it. Zipperhead has been selling plaid and fishnets from labels like Lip Service and Tripp since 1980. Grab a Yuengling lager, the city's official home-grown cheap beer, at Tattooed Mom, where plastic vending machine toys are sprinkled on each table. Digital Ferret has an extensive selection of goth, punk, and industrial CDs from home and abroad. Bad hair day? Quick, cheap cuts can be had at the Chop Shop. Beau Monde stuffs its crepes with cheeses, chicken, vegetables, or anything in between. Harry's Occult Shop has been a South Street fixture since 1917, selling candles, tarot readings, and statues. Across Broad Street is the one-two bar punch of Tritone and Bob and Barbara's, where the ÒspecialÓ - a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon and a shot of Jim Beam - will set you back only $3.
Zipperhead, 407 South St. 215.928.1123. Open Fri-Sat noon-midnight, Sun-Tue noon-10pm. Tattooed Mom, 530 South St. 215.238.9880. Open noon-2am daily. Digital Ferret Compact Discs, 526 S. 5th St. 215.925.9259. Open noon-10pm Mon-Sat, noon-7pm Sun. Chop Shop, 513 South St. 215.923.5545. Open Fri 10-7, Sat 10-6, Sun 12-5. Beau Monde, 624 S 6th St. 215.592.0656. Open Tue-Fri 12pm-11pm, Sat 10am-11pm, Sun 10am-10pm. Harry's Occult Shop, 1238 South St. 215.735.8262. Open 9:15am-6:45pm Fri-Sat, closed Sun. Tritone, 1508 South St. 215.545.0475. Open 5pm-2am daily. Bob & Barbara's Cocktail Lounge, 1509 South St. 215.545.4511.

The Mutter Museum
Two rhyming Philadelphia museums spotlight the city's penchant for enshrining the strange. The Mutter Museum hosts a collection of more than 20,000 objects, with quite a few medical oddities - a corpse that turned into soap after rigor mortis set in, John Wilkes Booth's thorax, a giant colon. The current special exhibit focuses on conjoined twins. The Mummers Museum is a shrine to the Philadelphia tradition of Mummery: Every New Year's Day, Philadelphians trot out their feathers and sequins and strut down Market Street to the sounds of the song "O, Dem Golden Slippers."
Mutter Museum, 19 S 22nd St. 215.563.3737. Open 10am-5pm daily. Admission: $8. Mummers Museum, 1100 S 2nd St. 215.336.3050. Open 9:30am-5pm Tue-Sat, 12-5 Sun. Admission: $2.50.

To Market, to Market
Philadelphia foodies pride themselves on having food options that are both cheap and delicious. Bolstering this part of the city's reputation are two farmers' markets located inside the city are open to the public. Reading Terminal Market, once a train station, is located near the Trocadero; freshly made donuts and chocolate-covered potato chips are available for snacking after you've sampled every nation's brand of cuisine. The Italian Market is a bit of a walk, but the blocks-long stretch of stores is worth the trip for any fan of Italian cheeses, deli specialties, and freshly roasted espresso. Reading Terminal Market, 12th and Filbert Sts. 215.592.9772. Open Mon-Sat 8am-6pm (Amish merchants Wed-Sat 8am-6pm). Italian Market, 9th St between Christian and Federal Sts. Most vendors and stores are open from 7:30am to 5pm, Tues-Sat, but some vendors are open daily.

Standard Tap's taps all feature locally brewed beers - and they've got some of the tastiest bar food in the city. Philadelphia Soap Company's freshly made soaps come in every flavor, from buttercream to fennel.
